| Preston Residents for Responsible Development arranged a "walking tour" of the old Norwich Hospital property on Saturday December 10th, 2005. The region had just experienced its first signifcant snowfall of the season so walking was a bit dicey, but going slow and easy it turned out to be a nice tour. 1st Selectman Bob Congdon answered many questions on the history of the property as well as providing information on potential development of the site.
Someone in our group mentioned "If these old buiildings could talk...." and he was exactly right. There were lives affected there...Staff, patients, and the familes of both, and I suspect there were more tears of sadness then exclamations of joy within those walls.
Some of the buildings were indeed very beautiful and well designed, and to see the deterioration from the weather and vandalism is hard. Better days are, hopefully, in the future of this wonderful property on the Thames.
