Posted May 30th, 2008: Bob Cline’s Obituary and Memorial Service Information
March 29th 2008: I received a letter from a Shelia Simpson offering our members a book, “The Travelers Guide for Emergency Alerts” She states, in part “Everyone has been away from home when the TV, radio or weather alert announces an emergency alert "by counties". When traveling, we don't have a clue what county we're in. This book lists all fifty states with cities that have campgrounds and tells what "county" they're in. If a county does not have a campground, I used the county seat so every county in the U.S. is in this book.” Click here to read the letter which has ordering information in it.
March 2008: Alice and myself attended The Rally in Perry Ga. Click here for a photo of the most couples dancing worlds record being broken!
March 2nd, 2008: Club members Eric and Renee Anderson have asked me to share an invitation to the North Stonington Lions Club Art Auction. All proceeds from this gala affair go to benefit their Campaign for Sight II. Click here for the full details (pdf download) or call Eric at 860 662-4034.

November 10th, 2007: The Seaport Sam Website was updated with a complete list (minus some Samboree’s) of our 2008 camping schedule. This was posted to our 2008 Campouts page. On the State Meetings page we’ve also posted a tenitive 2008 CT Samboree activity schedule (PDF download) from State Director Sandy Bulson.
November 10th, 2007: The Christmas Party invitations have been mailed out by Chairmen Alma and Bill Warren, for Sunday December 2nd, 2007 at the Port’N Starboard, Ocean Beach in New London.
August 16th, 2007: Just a quick note on a few items. Seaport Sams Club President Bob Payette is back from his second hospitalization - this time for an infection in his leg from the previous open-heart surgury. I’m doing real good, and Thank You all for the cards and calls wishing me a speedy recovery. We’re going to “Pop In” to the Ross Hill campout on Saturday 18 August if we can to say hello to everyone.
I just rec’d this note from Steve and Rose Jackson: Bob
Rose and I are now living in Palm Coast FL. We had hoped to attend another campout before we left but our schedule didn’t permit it. We wanted to say goodbye to the group Camping with you folks, was always a great time
Please give them our best
Steve and Rose Jackson
July 16th, 2007: (Email sent out Julyh 16th, 2007) We’ve uploaded a Picasa Photo Album to the website from the Ginny B event…you can view it directly from this link: http://picasaweb.google.com/BobNLPS/GinnyBCampgroundJuly2007 . Once the album loads, choose “Slideshow” and you can see all the photos with captions.
This was a great campout, with thirty one rigs in attendance. Ginny told me that we are by far the largest group she has coming there and she appreciates us…..as we do her! We’ve re-booked Ginny B for the same weekend next year.
Next month at Ross Hill it was decided at the business meeting NOT to have a pot luck. Instead, we’re going to have an ice crème social on Saturday afternoon (the Club is taking care of the ice crème and fixings….just bring yourself!) and then on Saturday night we’re going to do a group pizza party. If you like pizza, don’t plan on cooking on Saturday night!
I’m starting the signup sheet for Ross Hill CG (our August campout) now. We had 16 rigs sign up already at Ginny B for the Ross Hill event, so if you signed up there you’re all set. If you didn’t sign up yet and want to come give me a call at 892-5484 or email at r.payette@snet.net and we’ll get you on the list.
Our new “Clothing Chairperson” is Renee Anderson, and she’s taking preliminary orders for golf-style men’s and woman’s shirts. These shirts will be in the Club colors and have the Seaport Sam logo on them, and will cost $20.00. XXL will be a few dollars more, as is customary. Call Renee at 860 767-2152 or email at eanderson@essexlimousine.com to have your name added to the list. She is planning on bringing samples, both washed and not washed, for folks to check their sizes and look at shrinkage before ordering. Hats and jackets will be discussed once we have the shirts set up. She already has about 30 names of interested folks for these shirts, and it will be nice at the CT Samboree and others to be able to wear a Club shirt to the events. THANK YOU Renee for taking on this job!
Sherriff Mike Slights has a list of folks who want to attend a late fall (3rd week of October?) CT River Cruise/Steamboat ride event. Call Mike at 860 739-2230 or Email at msleights@snet.net for further information or to get added to the list of attendee’s.
Lastly, a “Housekeeping” note as to our general rules and procedures…..Our Campouts are “Hobo” parking, which means that rigs are parked on a first come-first served basis. There is no reserving of campsites for later arrivals. If you want to camp together, you have to arrive together just like at a Samboree. It’s only fair to everyone and we appreciate your cooperation. The Wagonmaster has a hard job and we don’t want to make it any more difficult for him then it is. I’d also like to take this time to thank Charlie Burgess for “Stepping Up To the Plate” when it became apparent we needed a Wagonmaster this season due to the unanticipated health issues at the McSparren home.

Thomas Cameron Lyon
Stonington - Thomas Cameron Lyon, 78, of Stonington, died Friday, April 13, 2007.
He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on May 1, 1928, the son of Thomas C. Lyon, NYC Police Officer, and Hazel Adelaide (Dearnley) Lyon, political activist and librarian.
He married Merrily Woerz on Feb. 8, 1974.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Thomas "T.C." Lyon and daughter-in-law, Kathryn Tabor Lyon of Charlestown, R.I. He is also survived by his in-laws, Herbert and Hilde Woerz of Stonington; a sister, Adelaide Huey of Groton; sister-in-law, Linda Marinan of North Carolina; three nieces, three nephews; and beloved, Aunt Ruth.
A "New Yorker" at heart, he spent summers on Long Island Sound and at the City Island Yacht Club. Tom joined the U.S. Merchant Marines in 1944 and the U.S. Navy in 1945, serving with the Pacific Fleet on the USS Waccamaw and the USS Lejeune until 1949.
He moved to Groton where he owned Lyon's Esso Garage. He worked for the State of Connecticut at Eastern Connecticut State University, State Retirement Division, and for the U.S. Postal Service. He was president of the Connecticut State Employees Association from 1971 to 1975, serving under three governors, and was also president/executive director of Civil Service Employees Affiliates from 1974 to 1978.
His community and political services included Republican State Central Committee, Advisory Board of Mohegan Community College, Republican Town Committee, and the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission. He was also a licensed dog show judge and enjoyed raising championship Dalmatians, achieving a top ten dog in the U.S. with his beloved "C.J."
He loved time with his family, telling stories of people, places and events, eating candy, trips to the dump, riding his tractor, clamming on Ninigret Pond, reading entire books in a single day, teasing, breakfast out with friends, and, most of all, spoiling his son. He was a huge presence who will be missed. We love you Tom.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Calvary Church, Stonington. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
