Click on Vessel Safety Check Decal at left to link up with a VSC Inspector!

A Vessel Safety Check is a courtesy examination of your boat (Vessel) to verify the presence and condition of certain Safety Equipment that is required by State and the Federal regulations. VSC's are generally performed on recreational boats under 65 feet. The Vessel Examiner is a trained specialist and is a member of the United States Power Squadrons® and a local member of New London Power Squadron. Vessel Examiners will also make certain recommendations and discuss certain safety issues that will make you a safer boater.

A VSC is not a law enforcement authority.

A Vessel Safety Check is performed only with the consent of the owner or operator, who must be present at the time of the examination. You will be supplied with a copy of our evaluation so that you may follow some of the suggestions given. Vessels that pass will be able to display the distinctive VSC 2003 decal. A Vessel Safety Check does not circumvent the right of any federal, state or local law enforcement officer to verify the presence and condition of safety equipment.

If you would like a "Courtesy" Vessel Safety Check on your boat (power, sail, pwc, fishing, or dinghy), please contact us. On the Email give us your name, basic information on your vessel, and a contact time and telephone number. A Vessel Safety Check takes about 15 minutes. Take a few minutes for a safe day on the water. The link below will give you a “Virtual VSC Exam”.

The Cooperative Charting Program of the United States Power Squadrons® is conducted in close coordination with the Marine Chart Division, National Ocean Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Program is a major public service of USPS. Under it, members supply information to the Marine Chart Division of NOS/NOAA leading to corrections to nautical charts, small craft charts, and Coast Pilot publications. They also supply data on depth surveys, range status, geodetic marks, and aeronautical charts. The Adopt-A-Chart subprogram enables individual squadrons to adopt a chart in their location and get recognition on new editions for their work. We have been told that the Cooperative Charting Program is recognized as the most effective user-participation program in all of the Federal services.
